The La Tanière team collected Désiré from a small concrete courtyard in Chartres where he lived. His owner fed him with croissants and cakes. Due to an unsuitable diet and a lack of exercise, his muscles and bones could no longer support his weight. Désiré also developed joint problems.

So that the pig didn’t suffer too much, a vet came to give him an injection of anti-inflammatory drugs 2 to 3 times a week. However, the vet didn’t think this was a long-term solution so Désiré would either be put down or be taken to the Zoo Refuge.

When he arrived, he was scared of the other pigs. Since then, he has lost weight and got used to living with his peers. His owner comes to see him regularly and contributes to his expenses.
